If you’re like me, you’re CHEAP! lol

But that’s not always a bad thing! Sometimes creative ways to stretch a dollar can really mean the difference between an average project and an outstanding project. So without a doubt, I had to try the Oopsu 6 Pack 4″x6″ Pale Pink Rubber Stamp Carving Blocks Rubber Carved Brick for Stamp Soft Rubber Crafts and DIY Craft Project from Amazon. These look similar to the Speedball Speedy Carve blocks, but they are not the same. Both items have their pros and cons, so let’s take a look:

It’s pink, it looks the same, what’s the difference right?

Well…..

The difference between this rubber pink stuff and the Speedball variety is not very huge. It’s easy to carve, it’s not extremely squishy and it doesn’t have a terrible smell or anything. But it’s not THE SAME. It’s a little tougher to carve than the Speedball kind. It’s not as tough as wood, or even the grey linoleum. It’s still one of the EASIEST things that you can carve, in fact.

So my recommendation? It’s worth trying these Pink Pads to see if they’ll work for you. I think because they’re a little tougher to cut I had more difficulty with control. There was just enough give to the soft material to throw me off because I was needing to push harder, but without the resistance I expected. In the end, they’re going to work great for my purpose of doing some quick cat sketch prints. On the other hand, I probably won’t trust these to work with for any larger projects. They might be perfect for someone looking to do a sketch of a bigger idea, try out some patterns or just improvise a little without spending a lot of money on a block.

Have you tried these? What were your thoughts? Let me know in the comments!
